1. Router Configuration part (NOT needed for VDSL modems)

Note: VDSL modems already have port 3 & port 4 configured as TV port.

Solution 1

Use the Belgacom installer (new):
Before using this, check the speed on your router (in status window). If that is 7Mb, pls proceed. If not, don't use this. Download the following software: Belgacom Updater And start this on your Windows pc. (windows 2000, windows XP). It doesn't run in Linux or MAC, sorry. This will download the firmwares and update your modem. Pls be aware that this can cause disconnects in some cases. (if you have a bad line for example).

Solution 2

  • Login on your router administration console: http://192.168.1.1 (external link)
  • Enter your Administrator password
  • Click on 'Advanced Settings'
  • Click on 'Home Networking'
  • In the right frame, you need to check the 'VLAN Binding' section. In that section change for example LAN3 to IPTV. (change from default to IPTV) . Image below shows you how it should look like:

  • Press 'Save Settings'. Note: Your tv will stall a few seconds during this action.

2. Router <-> PC hardware part

Take a good , super good, decent, very decent UTP cable, and put this in your LAN3 entry of your router and plug the other side in your pc network card.

3. PC Network configuration

Very easy... select DHCP for that card. If DHCP doesn't work...then it's getting less easy:
  • Go to your TV and start the Belgacom TV decoder.
  • Go to INFO and write down the IP address.
  • Shut down the Belgacom TV decoder
  • Give that IP address to your PC network card. (network configuration). DNS -> empty Gateway -> none
  • ..once this is done , you can start your decoder again
  • now you are connected , but you need to add the routes. In windows, go to Start -> run -> enter 'cmd' and press enter. Then type the following rules:

4. How to watch TV

Now, you configured your router and your pc can listen to stream, but you need to 'see' that stream. You can use a free tool for that, called 'vlc' . That runs on Linux AND Windows AND Mac OS X AND SOLARIS AND FreeBSD, etc. You can download it from this url: http://www.videolan.org/vlc (external link) Once you downloaded, just start vlc. Once started, click on 'File' -> 'Open Network Stream. As URL select one of the valid url's (those are not made available by Belgacom). You can find a small list on this site: Article 30

Important note : If you don't have an ADSL2+ with 9Mb/s or VDSL, you will need to watch either TV OR on the PC. The stream requires 4Mb/s , so you don't have enough bandwith in the vlan to run multiple streams for the moment.
